Ages 3-5
Beginning Pottery There's something necessary about little fingers and clay. We could talk fine motor skills, but it's all about fun and freedom and getting your hands dirty. Preschoolers will get to hand build tools, vessels, and create their own special pottery pieces.
Assemblage Assemblage: a funny word that I associate with Robert Rauchenberg. He once said something to the effect that an artist should be able to create a piece with objects found on a walk around the block. Of course, he lived in New York City. Still, the idea of making a statement by putting dissimilar objects together and mixing the media fascinates me. Face it, coloring, painting and sculpting outside of the lines is fun. Roll your sleeves up and bring your mementos and favorite found objects to the studio and turn them into treasured art. Projects are always age appropriate.

Ages 6-10
Open Studio Each month we'll cover different movements and themes in art. We'll jump continents and travel through time. There is no limit to the art your child will be exposed to and inspired to create. Instruction will be given on perspective, color theory and composition. Brief discussions will be followed with ample creativity time.
Cartoon Drawing We will also hold sessions of cartoon drawing that will give children the understanding and experience of creating and drawing characters and exploring favorite styles and characters. We will cover basic anatomy, facial expressions, and body positions. During the concept phase of each drawing we will also address composition and point of view.

Ages 11-14
Open Studio The Dadaists, the Surrealists, the Abstract Expressionists; what was going on historically to spawn these artists and these movements? Better yet, what's going on in our world today and what would you like to say about it? Open discussions about history's roll in art, the good, the bad and the ugly, will be followed with the participants creating their own work in their own or a borrowed style. The statements made by the children will be profound. Instruction will be provided for perspective, composition and color theory, but project ideas will be largely child driven.
Cartoon Drawing We will also offer sessions taught by Robin Hing that will give children the understanding and experience of creating and drawing characters and laying out a cartoon strip. We will cover basic anatomy, facial expressions, and body positions. During the concept phase of each drawing we will also address composition and point of view. At the end of the 4 class program, each student will have designed an original character and created a short cartoon strip.
